Bio solar itu mudah terdegradasi. Selain itu mudah menyerap air. Ini menyebabkan bio solar yang disimpan lama mudah rusak, baik di dalam tangki bahan bakar ataupun penyimpanan pertamina.
Di petunjuk kendaraan John Deree, dikatakan bahwa masa penyimpanan bio diesel sebaiknya tidak lebih dari 3 bulan:

Biodiesel fuel is biodegradable and should not be stored for more than 3 months.
If fuel is going to be stored longer than 3 months, a stability additive should be added to the biodiesel as
close to the time of the B100 production as possible. Stability additives are most effective if added to
the biodiesel when it is fresh.
Efek dari penyimpanan yang terlalu lama:
Bio solar yang terurai akan mudah menyebabkan berkembangnya bakteri dan jamur. Ini akan menyebabkan bio solar lambat laun akan berubah menjadi lumpur.

Mia menjelaskan, biodiesel yang disimpan kurang lebih enam bulan di tangki akan mudah rusak dan bisa menjadi lumpur, sifat ini menjadi salah satu efek buruk dari Biodiesel yang sangat merugikan untuk mesin.
Lumpur ini dapat menyebabkan timbunan kotoran di pompa bahan bakar, saluran ataupun sistem injeksi.
Fuel Stability Problems Challenge FAME Biodiesel
Fuel stability woes challenge the increase of FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) biodiesel beyond the current B5, or 5% blend. Mercedes-Benz and some other original engine manufacturers (OEM’s) will not warranty their engines when blends of B6 or higher are used. The reason is due to poor oxidation stability that causes the fuel to biodegrade over time. This process is amplified due to improper storage and handling along the retail fuel distribution chain. Fuels that are in spec at the time of blending have shown degradations in quality as they move out through retailers. The results of oxidation can include bacterial growth in gas tanks and sludging of engines, fuel injectors and fuel filters.
Jadi bila mobilnya jarang dipakai, jangan diisi dengan bio solar. Daripada nanti belakangan menimbulkan masalah. Biaya memperbaiki bisa sangat jauh lebih mahal dari selisih harga solarnya.
